Platycerium Staghorn Mounted
$45.00 – $450.00
CODE:Platycerium ‘Staghorn’ – various sizes
Platycerium Staghorn is an elegant fern with a shield-like frond of silver-green foliage. Already mounted/attached to a tree-fern backing board for easier and quicker installation. As these plants age, a new larger shield-like frond will grow over the old frond. Platycerium Staghorn is best grown in a sheltered position where they are exposed to morning sun only. The late afternoon sun can cause burning and sun scorch to the foliage. Best grown in part shade to all-day shade. If your Staghorn is in a covered area with no access to natural rainfall, it may require additional watering or feeding over hot and dry periods. Attach to fences, walls or mounted to mature trees for a stunning display. Platycerium Staghorn has high water requirements. Regular watering throughout Summer will benefit the plant.

Garden Uses:
- Undercover/Entertaining Area
- Fernery
- Feature plant
- Under large trees
Planting Tips:
- Take the backing board and place a layer of peat moss or sphagnum moss
- Place the Staghorn gently from the pot, removing as much of the existing potting mix as possible. It is important to ensure the scales/shields (at the base of the fern) remain undamaged – they will eventually envelop the board.
- Using a fine metal wire or jute garden twine, gentle secure the Staghorn to the board. Avoid using the twine or wire over the shields/scales, instead, try your best to get the string/twine underneath them.
- Fill any gaps with a mixture of hydrated coir/sphagnum moss and seed raising mix, pack it in around root system and where the roots meet the board.
- Water in well, keep moist (but no wet) and provide an organic fertiliser (and a banana skin) every few months.
- Once the Staghorn has begun to root onto the backing board you can hang your master piece in the garden.
