Rubus ursinus x idaeus Boysenberry – 17cm Freshly Potted
Boysenberry produces dusty purple coloured berries that are produced on a trailing vine up to 7m long. Well suited to home gardens. The fruit is aromatic and a little tart to taste. Leaves emerge in early spring, flowers in mid-spring and fruit from early summer. Boysenberries thrive in rich, fertile, well-drained soils in full sun. Support vines on a strong wire trellis, a fence or shed. Tie new canes firmly onto the support. Fertilise in early spring and late summer—supply ample water during berries, which coincides with hot weather. Cut canes back to the ground each winter. New canes produce season fruit.

Planting Tips:
Prepare the soil before planting. Mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost will help to condition and revitalise tired soils. If adding organic matter to your soil, make sure to blend the compost or animal manure with pre-existing soil, mixing/digging it together thoroughly. Once the soil has been prepared, dig a wider hole, but not deeper, than the pot’s original size has come in. Position the plant in the hole, backfill any gaps with the excess soil. Do not bury the graft of the plant. Give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.
Suppose planting into a pot. The container chosen is large enough to accommodate the plant being planted. Never pot a plant into a container that is too small. Use a premium quality potting mix as this has all the added fertilisers and wetting agents required for having a healthy plant.
