Planting Tips:
Citrus trees can be planted all year round, however, making sure to find the perfect spot for them is vital to ensuring good production. Fruiting citrus trees require a sunny position with rich-humus soil that is free-draining. Make sure to prepare the soil prior to planting by mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost, this will help your citrus tree establish better and it revitalises tired soil. Make sure to blend the manure well with pre-existing soil by mixing together thoroughly.
Once the soil has been prepared, dig a hole which is wider, but not deeper, than what the original size of the pot the citrus plant came in. Position the plant in the hole ensuring you do not bury the plant any deeper than it was in the pot, and backfill in any gaps with the surrounding soil. Lightly firm the plant in place and give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.
If planting into a pot make sure that the container chosen is the correct size for your plant. Never pot a plant into a container which smaller than its current pot, or one which is overly large either. Aim for a pot which gives the roots around 5cm or room for the roots to grow into. Using a premium quality potting mix is desirable as this has added fertiliser to ensure good growth and wetting agents which helps keep the plant hydrated, which ensures you have a healthy plant.
