CODE:Lemon Eureka – Various Sizes
Lemon Eureka is a highly decorative evergreen citrus tree with shiny and rich, deep-green foliage. When the flower buds emerge, they are white with yellow undertones and have a wonderful fragrance. Lemon Eureka is widely popular due to its medium to large size fruit with thick skin, juicy flesh and a tangy flavour that complements the versatility of the fruit. Eureka Lemons are fantastic for flavouring dishes, used fresh in salads and drinks.
All citrus will take up to 3 years to produce a harvestable crop. In the first 12 months the tree will be establishing its roots into the soil, the second year you should be establishing the framework of the tree and then in the third year they should begin to crop. It isn’t uncommon in the first 12-18 months for the fruit to form on the tree but be undersize or lacking flavour. Uneven weather conditions can also affect the fruiting times, crops and yield.
The fruit develops for much of the year with a growth habit that is ideal for pots and courtyard gardens. Fertilise Lemon Eureka throughout the peak growing seasons. Low water requirements through winter, however, keep the tree well-watered throughout Summer.
Give newly planted trees with a citrus fertiliser to help settle them, the best times to feed citrus is from September through to March. Citrus can take heavy pruning, but this is not usually done unless transplanting or there has been damage to the limbs. They are best pruned in November or December as this minimises fruit loss and damage to new growth.
