Finger Lime ‘Australian Blood Lime’ – 20cm pot
Highly sought after by restaurants this native bushfood is a must for any keen gardener. Australian Blood lime is also known as Red Centre Lime.
An evergreen tree with small rounded deep green foliage with stems which bare thorns. This variety is a cross between a finger lime and a mandarin, producing egg-shaped fruit. Fruit skin is ruby red with red pulp.
Pale white-pink flowers appear in Summer and Autumn, the fruit develops in Winter. Fruit will begin to ripen, but not fully on the tree, throughout Winter. Once picked leave for 5-10 days as the fruit will then fully ripen. The pulp has a tangy-citrus flavour can be juiced for a refreshing drink. The juice produced from the pulp will be pink.
All Citrus will take up to 3 years to produce a harvestable crop. It isn’t uncommon in the first 12-18 months for the fruit to form on the tree but be undersize or lacking flavour. In the first 12 months the tree will be establishing its roots into the soil, the second year you should be establishing the framework of the tree and then in the third year, they should begin to crop. Uneven weather conditions can also affect the fruiting times, crops and yield.
