Finger Lime ‘Native’ – 20cm Pot
Citrus australasica
Highly sought after by restaurants, this native bushfood is a must for any keen gardener! An evergreen tree with small rounded deep green foliage with stems which bare thorns. Pale white-pink flowers appear in late Summer and Autumn which are followed by elongated green fruits. Finger Lime Native fruit will begin to ripen, but not fully on the tree, throughout the Winter season and into early Spring. Once picked leave for 5-10 days as the fruit will then fully ripen. The pulp is a lime-white colour with an intensely sweet flavour with a bit of tanginess.
All Citrus will take up to 3 years to produce a harvestable crop. It isn’t uncommon in the first 12-18 months for the fruit to form on the tree but be undersize or lacking flavour. In the first 12 months the tree will be establishing its roots into the soil, the second year you should be establishing the framework of the tree and then in the third year, they should begin to crop. Uneven weather conditions can also affect the fruiting times, crops and yield.
