Finger Lime ‘Pink Ice’

Finger Lime ‘Pink Ice’ is an evergreen tree with small rounded deep green foliage with stems which bare thorns. Pale white-pink flowers appear in late Summer and autumn, followed by elongated green-burgundy fruits with soft pink pearl-like flesh. Native Lime fruit will begin to ripen, but not entirely on the tree, throughout the Winter season and early Spring. Once picked leave for 5-10 days as the fruit will then fully ripen. The pulp of the Finger Lime ‘Pink Ice’  is a soft pink with an intensely sweet flavour with a tanginess.

Highly sought after by restaurants, this native bushfood is a must for any keen gardener.

All Citrus will take up to 3 years to produce a harvestable crop. It isn’t uncommon in the first 12-18 months for the fruit to form on the tree and undersize or lack flavour. In the first 12 months the tree will be establishing its roots into the soil, the second year you should be establishing the tree’s framework and then in the third year, they should begin to crop. Uneven weather conditions can also affect the fruiting times, crops and yield.

Planting Tips:

Prepare the soil before planting. Mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost will help condition and revitalise tired soils. If adding organic matter to your soil, make sure to blend the compost or animal manure with pre-existing soil, mixing/digging it together thoroughly. Once the soil has been prepared, dig a wider hole, but not more profound, than the original size of the pot the plant has come in. Position the plant in the spot, backfill any gaps with the excess soil. Do not burry the graft of the plant. Give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.

Suppose planting into a pot ensures that the container chosen is large enough to accommodate the plant being planted. Never pot a plant into a container which is too small. Use a premium quality potting mix as this has all the added fertilisers and wetting agents required for having a healthy plant.
