Olive ‘Arbequina’ – 25cm

Olive Arbequina is a highly decorative fruiting tree with slender green leaves with silver undersides. Very drought tolerant once established, thrives in colder climates and can be grown in the garden or larger pots. All Olives require humus-rich soil which has good drainage as they dislike sitting in water for long periods. Olive Arbequina produces large green fruits which ripen to a deep purple, almost black colour in Autumn. Popular as a table olive. Low water requirements once established in the garden. If grown in containers keep well watered over the Summer. A great variety to be grown in colder climates like Victoria as it will still produce an abundance of fruit. Slow growing.

Olives are mainly self-fertile; however, they produce higher and better quality crops with a pollinator.

Planting Tips:
Prepare the soil before planting. By mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost will help to condition and revitalise tired soils. If adding organic matter to your soil, make sure to blend the compost or animal manure with pre-existing soil, mixing/digging it together thoroughly. Once the ground has been prepare, dig a hole which is wider, but not deeper, than what the original size of the pot the plant has come in. Position the plant in the hole, backfill any gaps with the excess soil. Do not bury the graft of the plant. Give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.

Containers: Make sure that the container chosen is large enough to accommodate the plant selected. Never pot a plant into a pot which is too small. Use a premium quality potting mix as this has all the added fertilisers and wetting agents required for having a healthy plant.
