Produces a cylindrical loose head up to 40cm long and 15cm across. The light green leaves are very tender and excellent for stir fry, pickling and salads. Not suitable for boiling.
The chinese cabbage grows best in the cooler part of the year. As with all cabbages, soil preparation is vital to successful production and a deeply dug, heavily manured but well drained soil.
The best manure is poultry and should be applied and dug in deeply several weeks before seedlings are planted.
Ensure that the young plants do not stop growing at any stage by side dressing with a complete fertiliser every two or three weeks.
