Chinese Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortuneii)
- Sturdy, low maintenance, slow growing palm with stiff, fan-shaped fronds on a single trunk that is covered with loosely arranged dark brown fibre (quite handy to line up hanging baskets).
- Use in tropical gardens as a single specimen or in group of varying heights or to line up a driveway.
- Position: full sun to part shade in well drained soils. Will tolerate frost once established.
- Water requirements: low once established. Occasional watering during hot and dry periods will benefit the plant.
- Size: can reach 10 metres in height (it may take a while) with a 2 metres wide crown of foliage.
- Use nitrogen rich fertiliser in spring and summer to promote new growth.
