Cocos or Queen Palm (Syagrus romanzoffiana)
- A fast growing, low maintenance, evergreen slender solitary palm with grey trunk and bright green feather-shaped fronds. The long fronds gracefully arch at their base creating a rounded crown of foliage. Can occasionally produce yellow clusters of flowers followed by bright red fruits in autumn.
- Use as a feature tree in a tropical garden, to line a driveway, in large containers outdoors or indoors or in general landscaping.
- Position: full sun to part shade in well drained soils. Will not grow in alkaline soils. Will tolerate light frost once established.
- Water requirements: keep moist (but not water-logged) in summer and allow to dry out in winter.
- Size: can reach 10-12 metres in height. Dry leaves will fall cleanly off the trunk so there’s no need to prune or trim.
- Fertilize in spring and summer with a palm fertilizer.
