Pots are a wonderful way to bring plants into the home and decorate our outdoor settings. Coming various colours, styles and shapes, pots can be used as either a decoration or to help transport plants more easily. However, you always need to keep in mind the plants that you are putting into the pot and what their requirements are before choosing one.

Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the one your plant is currently in. Plants spread their roots to fill the entirety of the container they are in. You need to move your plant to a larger pot if the roots start to stick out through the drainage holes at the bottom. When transplanting from one pot to another, make sure the roots fit well into the pot and do not stick out. Use a potting mix to fill the gaps and give the plant a bit of a soak to help settle the soil and the plant.

Remember to fertilise potted plants as they lack the ability to regain nutrients in the soil through natural means. Use a fertiliser suited to the plant and follow the directions provided.
