CODE:Codling Moth Trap
For monitoring, Codling Moth – the pest that causes great damage to apples and pears.
· Contains pheromone attractant.
· Does not attract beneficial insects.
· Effective for a whole season.
· Simple to use.
· May be used as one strategy in integrated pest management.
This easy to assemble kit uses a synthetic pheromone to lure male Codling Moths into the sticky trap.
By regular checking of traps, growers can assess the level of infestation and take appropriate remedial action.
When should I use this trap?
The trap should be in place when the blossom buds begin to open, as this will achieve the most effective results. Note, the lure will release the pheromone from the time of opening the sachet. Taking note of the date from when the lure was first placed and opened will give a good indication as to when it might be required to be refilled/replaced. It is recommended that the lure is changed every five weeks.
Codling Moths are most active when there are warm, dry nights in Spring. If weather conditions are too cool, they won’t be active until later in the season. If this occurs, the first lure may not attract many moths.
Use one trap for every five trees.
The Codling Moth is 8mm long, grey, with black lines and a distinctive copper patch on the wingtips. If more than 15-20 moths are caught in any one trap in a two week period, this is an indication of a heavy infestation. Changing the Codling Moth Trap lures might be required more frequently.
Use the trap as a monitor to time pesticide treatments accurately.
If the traps capture five or more Codling Moths consistently every two weeks, apply an approved spray treatment for 7-10 days. When using a spray treatment, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
