Quince Smyrna- Freshly Potted*
An upright deciduous fruiting tree is self-fertile. Quince Smyrna produces long stems with dark green leaves, which change colour in autumn. It will require annual pruning once the foliage has dropped in winter. This will encourage a stronger branching framework, airflow through the canopy and better fruit quality. Quince Smyrna produces extremely large fruit which is pear-shaped. Fruits have smooth pale-yellow skin with a light yellow flesh. The flavour sweet when cooked and is slightly aromatic. Ideal for eating fresh, cooking, preserving, jams. It grows best in humus-rich soil, which is well-draining.

Planting Tips:
Prepare the soil before planting. Mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost will help to condition and revitalise tired soils. If adding organic matter to your soil, make sure to blend the compost or animal manure with pre-existing soil, mixing/digging it together thoroughly. Once the soil has been prepared, dig a wider hole, but not deeper, than the pot’s original size has come in. Position the plant in the hole, backfill any gaps with the excess soil. Do not bury the graft of the plant. Give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.
Suppose planting into a pot. The container chosen is large enough to accommodate the plant being planted. Never pot a plant into a container that is too small. Use a premium quality potting mix as this has all the added fertilisers and wetting agents required for having a healthy plant.
