French Hydrangea ‘Red Ball’ – 25cm Pot
Hydrangea macrophylla
French Hydrangea Red Ball is a beautiful stately, medium-sized, deciduous shrub that produces lush-green leaves. From late Spring, flower buds begin to form, opening to reveal large, globed red flower heads in summer. In late Autumn, the foliage will turn from green to yellow before dropping for dormancy in Winter. Use in cottage gardens, mass plantings under deciduous trees, general landscaping and pots. French Hydrangea Red Ball has moderate-high water requirements. Keep the plant moist during the warmer months. Applying a layer of mulch around the base of the plant can assist in retaining moisture. Hydrangeas are best grown in humus-rich soil. Prune 2/3 of the plant in early Spring to encourage new growth and flowering.

Planting Tips:
Make sure to prepare the soil prior to planting. Mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost can help to conditions and revitalise tired soil. Make sure to blend with pre-existing soil, mixing together thoroughly. Once the soil has been prepared, dig a hole which is wider, but not deeper, than what the original size of the pot the plant has come in. Position the plant in the hole and backfill any gaps with the excess soil. Give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.
If planting into a pot make sure that the container chosen is large enough for the plant being planted. Never pot a plant into a container which is too small. Use a premium quality potting mix as this has all the added fertilisers and wetting agents required for having a healthy plant.
