Vireya Currie Ochre is a medium-sized, evergreen ornamental shrub which has beautiful leathery green leaves. In late Winter, large tubular orange-cerise-red blooms emerge. Vireya Currie Ochre will grow to taller heights if planted into humus-rich, heavy soil. Moderate water requirements once established the plant will benefit from occasional watering during the summer. Applying a thick layer of mulch around the base of the plant will help to retain moisture within the soil during dry weather. Sun tolerant. Position: Full sun – Part shade Height: 2-3m Width: 2-3m
Planting Tips:
Make sure to prepare the soil before planting. Mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost can help to conditions and revitalise tired soil. Make sure to blend with the pre-existing ground, mixing thoroughly. Once the soil has been prepare, dig a hole which is broader, but not deeper, than what the original size of the pot the plant has come in. Position the plant in the hole and backfill any gaps with the excess soil. Give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.
The container chosen needs to be large enough for the plant selected. Never pot a plant into a container which is too small. Use a premium quality potting mix as this has all the added fertilisers and wetting agents required for having a healthy plant.
