CODE:Lemon Meyer – Various Sizes
Lemon Meyer is a neat, small growing evergreen fruiting tree. This is not a true lemon as it is a hybrid between an orange and lemon. The fruit has lower acidity and sourness compared to traditional lemon varieties. The foliage is a lovely rich green, petite white fragrant blooms appear in Autumn. Following the blooms, wonderful small-medium golden-orange fruits appear through Autumn, Winter and Spring. The fruit has a thin skin and very juicy, ideal for drinks or making marmalades. Fertilise Lemon Meyer throughout the peak growing seasons. Low water requirements through winter, however, keep the tree well-watered throughout Summer.
All Citrus will take up to 3 years to produce a harvestable crop. It isn’t uncommon in the first 12-18 months for the fruit to form on the tree but be undersize or lacking flavour. In the first 12 months the tree will be establishing its roots into the soil, the second year you should be establishing the framework of the tree and then in the third year, they should begin to crop. Uneven weather conditions can also affect the fruiting times, crops and yield.
