Rubus canadensis ‘Blackberry Chester’ – 2 ltr
A vigorous growing plant which provides an abundance of fruit after the second season. Blackberry plants prefer well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Suitable to be grown on a trellis or fence. Fresh shoots emerge from September with flowers in November. From late January into February, small black fruit ripens on the long sprawling stem which can easily be picked from the plant. Fruit occurs on one-year-old wood. Blackberries require a cold Winter to set an abundance of fruit, in areas where the weather is more temperate during Winter, not as much fruit will occur. Best grown in humus-rich, free-draining soil in a sunny position with protection from wind. Once the fruit has been harvested prune old and weak canes to ground level during their dormancy. Plant Blackberry plants 50cm – 1 metre apart, if there is more room, planting 2 metres apart is ideal.
