Calamondin Variegated – 16cm pot
Calamondin are a hybridised cumquat with highly decorative evergreen foliage. They have highly fragrant flowers that are followed by fruit that have a sweet edible peel and are more sour bellow the surface. The fruit remains small just like a cumquats does. They can either be pruned to be kept in pots or they can be planted in the ground. Fertilise your Calamondin throughout the peak growing seasons. Low water requirements through winter, however, keep the tree well-watered throughout Summer.
All Citrus will take up to 3 years to produce a harvestable crop. It isn’t uncommon in the first 12-18 months for the fruit to form on the tree but be undersize or lacking flavour. In the first 12 months the tree will be establishing its roots into the soil, the second year you should be establishing the framework of the tree and then in the third year, they should begin to crop. Uneven weather conditions can also affect the fruiting times, crops and yield.

Planting Tips:
Prepare the soil prior to planting. By mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost it will help to condition and revitalise tired soils. If adding organic matter to your soil, make sure to blend the compost or animal manure with pre-existing soil, mixing/digging it together thoroughly. Once the soil has been prepared, dig a hole which is wider, but not deeper, than what the original size of the pot that the plant has come in. Position the plant in the hole, backfill any gaps with the excess soil. Do not burry the graft of the plant. Give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.
If planting into a pot make sure that the container chosen is large enough to accommodate the plant being planted. Never pot a plant into a container which is too small. Use a premium quality potting mix as this has all the added fertilisers and wetting agents required for having a healthy plant.
