Ribes rubrum ‘Red Currant’ – 2L Pot
An upright, medium-sized shrub with deep multi-lobed emerald green foliage changes colour in autumn before dropping in winter. Red Currant produces large clusters of translucent berries, which change to a brilliant ruby-red when ripe. The fruits are sweet with a slightly sour flavour. These berries are very high in antioxidants. Fruit can be used in jelly, fruit salads, desserts, jams or tarts—best grown in humus-rich soil, which is free draining. Currants can tolerate cold temperatures and thrive in areas where the winters have a high chill. They are frost tolerant and can be grown in heavy clay soils. Protect plants from strong winds.

Planting Tips:
Prepare the soil before planting. Mixing in a bag of well-aged animal manure or compost will help to condition and revitalise tired soils. If adding organic matter to your soil, make sure to blend the compost or animal manure with pre-existing soil, mixing/digging it together thoroughly. Once the soil has been prepared, dig a wider hole, but not deeper, than the pot’s original size has come in. Position the plant in the hole, backfill any gaps with the excess soil. Do not bury the graft of the plant. Give the plant a deep soaking of water to help settle the roots.
Suppose planting into a pot. The container chosen is large enough to accommodate the plant being planted. Never pot a plant into a container that is too small. Use a premium quality potting mix as this has all the added fertilisers and wetting agents required for having a healthy plant.
