Kiwiberry are a fast growing, deciduous climbing vine that produces delicious smooth grape sized fruit in March-April. The fruit has a similar taste of the kiwi fruit and can be eaten whole, in smoothies or fruit salads!
The Kiwiberry ‘Issai’ originates from Japan and is a rare self-fertile variety of Kiwiberry that will start to bare fruit in its first or second growing season.
Planting tips:
As a climber Kiwiberry is best grown on a support system like a trellis, obelisk, fence or pergola and prune each year in Winter. They require a sheltered, partly shaded position protected from hot dry winds and intense summer heat in the hottest parts of the day. They do require regular watering throughout the growing season, they prefer well-drained fertile soil with a pH between 5.5-6.5 .
